The ABLE Act

By Maureen Kroll, RN, MN, JD

As of December 16, 2014 President Obama signed The Tax Increase Prevention Act of 2014, which brought The ABLE Act into force. The ABLE Act stands for The “Achieving a Better Life Experience.”

The overall goal of this act is to allow people with disabilities to have the ability to save more without compromising their Medicaid and Supplemental Security Income programs. But there are limitations with this act. To qualify for this program, you must have become disabled before the age of 26.
